Weekly Post

We have discussed about meeting with each other and filming areas. We already made the introduction for the film, which will be about a minute long and we also have clothes that will match the time period we are trying to accomplish. The scenes have more dialogue than what it did before and we should be ready to film and then edit in about two weeks.

Prohibition: Rough Draft Script

Scene 1: Father and a group of friends are at a bar having a good time and drinking. Father comes home late at night.

Mother: Where have you been?! It’s 3 in the morning, you missed dinner, you’re drunk, and you have work in the morning!

Father: I was out with the boys. No need to shout, I was just trying to have a good time.

Mother: You’re always out! Always drinking! *Child* is constantly asks where his father is. Do you ever consider how having a drunk father is going to affect *him/her.*

Father: Well I’m home now aren’t I?

Scene 2 Summary: Alternate conversations between Father & his friend Jim, and Mother & her friend Margaret. Father complaining about how wife keeps nagging him about his drinking problem, while Mother is complaining about husband and alcohol related issues.

Scene 3: Mother and Father are gathered together in the kitchen.

Mother: Heard the latest on the news recently?

Father: No, why?

Mother: The Eighteenth Amendment was passed today, prohibiting the consumption and sale of your precious alcohol.

Father: What?!

Mother: Maybe now you can start paying attention more to your family.

Father: (Runs to the phone and dials Jim) Hey! Did you hear the news? They’re     getting rid of alcohol. What are we going to do?!

Father’s Friend: Don’t worry, I got a friend, George Remus who’s a bootlegger. Yeah, he saw it coming so he got his own distillery business setup. I’ll talk to him and he’ll be able to supply us both.

Scene 4: Men are in shady abandon area moving alcohol around and George Remus is seen directing the workers and conversing with different business parters.

Scene 5: Group of women, members of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, are gathered in the living of a home discussing Prohibition

Leader: Settle down. Well as you all know, the 18^th Amendment was passed a few weeks back; however, people everywhere continue to find a way around the law. The law must be enforced but the government isn’t doing anything about it. So I guess that leads it up to us, girls. Any recommendations?

Mother: We need to get rid of all their precious alcohol. Gather it all up & wash it down the sewer.

Member1: We should protest! Go to every saloon out there & force them to shut down!

Leader:  Good ideas, ladies. Let’s get to work!

Scene 6: Women are making signs, marching down streets protesting, gathered all around saloons, and smashing bottles of alcohol.

Scene 7: Father is at a speakeasies having a drink and talking to his friends.

Father: Man fellas, I don’t know how long I can keep this up. The wife is on my back, going to all extremes for this prohibition stuff. She thinks it’s ruining the family and corrupting my morals. Psh! What’s that supposed to mean?

Jim: Nothing to worry about pal. My wife’s the same. She’s even got my own kid against me! What kind of mambo jumbo are they teaching our kids nowadays?

Father: They’re all crazy. They’ve got to stop all this nonsense. Our society can’t live without alcohol. Never can, never will.

Scene 8: Kids are in a classroom and their teacher is lecturing about the evils of alcohol.

Teacher: Children, how many of your fathers or mothers used to drink regularly? Raise your hand.

(Some raise their hand)

Teacher: Ahh. Do not follow in your parent’s example. Alcohol is bad for you. If you even take one sip, you will explode and die!

Scene 9: Father and Mother are in the kitchen arguing about their opposing views on prohibition.

Mother: I just don’t understand you men and your alcohol issues. It’s just a drink! You won’t die without it.

Father: Well I don’t understand you women and your concern for our issues! Now all of a sudden you all care so much about us and what we do? I think it’s you who has an obsession for alcohol. Not me.

Mother: It’s corrupting our nation and ruining our family!

Father: Well you’re ruining my fun and night out with the boys!

Mother: (Angrily runs out of the house and into the car)

Scene 10: Mother is seen sitting at a bar, contemplating, when a man comes up to her and discreetly offers her a drink. She hesitates but eventually takes a few sips. She later comes home drunk and runs into her husband. He gives her a sly smile and both begin to laugh)
